Pathfinder works to ensure that all Ethiopians have the ability to exercise their sexual and reproductive rights. Pathfinder has a long history of partnering with the government to bring quality health care services to millions of people in urgent need. Across the country, Pathfinder has worked to strengthen health infrastructure, train and mentor the health workforce, and ensure that all people get the care they need, including maternal and newborn care, cervical cancer screenings and prevention, and reproductive health care.

Pathfinder designs and leads high impact interventions encompassing contraception, adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health and rights , comprehensive abortion care, obstetric fistula, cervical cancer prevention, maternal and newborn health, social and behavior change, girls’ empowerment, and gender.

  • Building Health Infrastructure
Pathfinder strengthens the health system at all levels including health facilities and trains the health workforce so that they can deliver quality, holistic care—for sexual and reproductive health, maternal and newborn health, contraception, and cervical cancer prevention. This work includes strengthening key systems and the quality of services to be equitable and responsive to the unique needs of adolescent, youth, women, girls, and those with special needs—including within the health, education, livelihoods, and child protection sectors.
  • Increasing Access for Vulnerable Communities
Pathfinder supports people who need it most and whose rights have been ignored, such as young people, sexual and gender-based violence and obstetric fistula survivors. We work across multiple sectors and at individual, community, and systems levels to empower adolescent girls, and mobilize communities to address the social issues that so often prevent people from accessing health care, such as gender-based violence and gender inequality.
  • Increasing Sustainability
Pathfinder builds the skills of local health workers and government officials so that our impact will continue long after our projects end. Pathfinder’s community-based health insurance (CBHI) work expanded community-based health insurance across the country and provided the necessary trainings for its implementation. Pathfinder also supports health facilities to restore or continue provision of services during emergencies, work that includes emergency response, stabilization, and development.
