Pathfinder Looks to Mobile Technology to Improve Vietnam’s Continuing Medical Education

With funding from the Fogarty International Center of the National Institutes of Health, Pathfinder has begun a new project to test the effectiveness of a mobile phone-based continuing medical education strategy among Vietnamese community-based physician assistants.

Pathfinder, in collaboration with Vietnam’s Committee for Ethnic and Minority Affairs and the Health Strategy & Policy Institutes of Vietnam’s Ministry of Health, disseminated the results of an assessment on the health care services for ethnic minorities of small population in Vietnam.

Youth and Yearning

With support from Johnson & Johnson, Pathfinder launched a health learning program for in- and out-of-school youth in Can Tho city and Thai Nguyen province to change attitudes and improve knowledge about HIV through life skills-based education.

“I remembered our life-skills forums where we had an opportunity to deal with similar scenarios. I was confident to share with him my feelings, my nervousness and my expectation that I preferred to delay,” one young woman said.  “He agreed with me and showed respect to me. I was very happy.”

Medical education project sees significant achievements

In Vietnam, a project to increase education in reproductive healthis met with success.
Supported by international donors, particularly Pathfinder International, which was the execution and technical support agency, the project expanded in 2006 to cover eight of the nation's 10 medical schools throughout the country.
