Dr. Alaa Hassan is a seasoned public health professional with over 20 years of experience in designing, leading, managing, monitoring, and evaluating programs in the development field as well as in academia. His research includes more than 10 publications in peer-reviewed journals, with a focus on sexual and reproductive health and gender-based violence. He joined our team in 2014 as our programs manager and became our country director in 2017.
In his previous role as Pathfinder’s programs manager, he led the monitoring and evaluation efforts under our USAID-funded projects in Egypt and served as an independent evaluator for projects funded by the Ford Foundation, Ministry of Health’s Department of Population, UNFPA, and USAID. He also managed projects addressing youth sexual and reproductive health and refugees.
He has extensive experience in reporting and research analysis in public health, including operations research with focus on women, youth, sexual and reproductive health, and economic empowerment.
Alaa is a medical doctor with a PhD in Public Health and Preventive Medicine from Cairo University School of Medicine. He speaks Arabic, English, and French.
