From 2012 to 2015, Pathfinder’s Scaling up Clinical and Community Action to Address Maternal Health project trained health providers and community health workers to recognize, and act upon, the warning signs of the leading causes of maternal death.

41 health workers in 21 health facilities trained to recognize & treat the leading causes of maternal death

2,000+ women who developed preeclampsia were successfully treated

24 community health workers and traditional birth attendants trained to recognize, and act upon, the leading causes of maternal death

Over 1,000 doses of life-saving medication provided to women experiencing postpartum hemorrhage

What We Did

  • Improved the quality of maternal health services
  • Built the capacity of the government to address postpartum hemorrhage and preeclampsia nationwide
  • Trained community health workers to recognize, and act upon, the warning signs of postpartum hemorrhage and preeclampsia
  • Worked with government and health authorities to ensure availability of critical, life-saving medication to treat the leading causes of maternal death both within communities and at health facilities
