USAID Transform: Promoting Healthy Timing and Spacing of Pregnancies

Providing a broad range of family planning (FP) methods to women of reproductive age leads to better birth spacing and improves the health of women and their children. In Ethiopia, the Ministry of Health (MoH) adopted a “task-shifting” approach to enhance the skills of lower-level FP service providers at the community level to ensure services meet the needs of women. USAID Transform: Primary Health Care partnered with the MoHto train health extension workers (HEWs) to provide comprehensive FP methods including, insertion and removal of Implanon, Jadelle, and intrauterine contraceptive devices (IUCDs) as part of the task-shifting program.
