
Senior Global Advisor, Health Systems Strengthening and Sustainability
Bruce Campbell has recently joined Pathfinder as our Senior Global Advisor, Health System Strengthening and Sustainability. He has over 35 years of experience in public health with a strong focus on integration of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) policy and programming within the broader contexts of primary health care, universal health coverage and health system strengthening at national, sub-national and community levels.
Bruce began his career in public health working for the International Rescue Committee with Palestinian refugees in southern Lebanon followed by an assignment with Afghan refugees in Pakistan. He was then engaged by the Netherlands Ministry of Development Cooperation between 1990 and 2000 as Chief Technical Advisor working within the Ministries of Health in Ghana and Nepal.
In May of 2000 Bruce joined UNFPA, and over the next two decades, led country office teams in Eritrea, Zimbabwe, and Viet Nam. He subsequently took on responsibilities in New York as Director of UNFPA’s Technical Division and corporate lead on innovation, prior to taking on the role of Director of UNPA’s Fiji office with oversight of 14 countries and territories across the Pacific.
During his extensive time at the country level, Bruce prioritized efforts to build collaborative relationships with all SRHR stakeholders while supporting evidence-based health system strengthening and sustainability investments. These efforts included nationally led and bottom-up planning, implementation, monitoring, review/evaluation, policy formulation and domestic/external resource mobilization contributing toward increased coverage and quality of SRHR information and services.
