10 Years of Implementation | DSSR Ado-Jeunes
Since 2015, Pathfinder International DRC has had the privilege of walking alongside young people in three of Kinshasa’s least-served communes: Masina 1, Matete, and Ngiri-Ngiri. With generous support from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, we implemented Droits en Santé Sexuelle et Reproductive des Adolescents et Jeunes à Kinshasa (DSSR Ado-Jeunes), a 10-year, 6-phase project addressing the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) needs of disadvantaged young people in these three communes. Over the past decade, our overarching project objectives did not waver:
- Improve quality and access of reproductive health and comprehensive abortion care for young people
- Improve the psychosocial environment to reduce barriers to accessing care
- Advocate for changes to national reproductive health policy and true implementation of the already-ratified Maputo Protocol
Within these overarching objectives, our programming evolved with each project phase to better meet emerging youth needs, especially as legal exceptions for providing abortion care expanded.
