Country Director

Dr. Irénée Ndabagiye MD, MPH is Pathfinder Burundi ’s Country Director. Dr. Ndabagiye grew in Burundi health system where he developed a deep experience in public health and family planning. He has served the Burundi country as a medical chief of MUTAHO Health district, as a provincial health bureau Medical Director in Muyinga Province and as Ministry of public health’s Medical Director of Health Programs and Projects.  From there he explored International NGO work, with assignments in both Pathfinder and CARE International in Burundi, where he worked as Family Planning and Reproductive Health Specialist in various projects funded by USAID, UNFPA, Dutch government. He led CARE International’s Consortium for Adolescent and Youth SRHR before rejoining Pathfinder Burundi Team. He has been key to fundraising efforts in these NGO positions and has substantial experience with operations and finance, as well as HR management.

Dr. Irénée holds a medical doctor degree obtained at the University of Burundi and a public health master’s degree from the Superior Institute of Technology of Burkina Faso. He also holds a university certificate in health systems research obtained at Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium) and many other professional trainings. Dr. Irénée is a passionate health services access promoter and is committed to universal health coverage with his long experience in reaching essential health services in hard-to-reach areas and to vulnerable.
