Two New Members Join Pathfinder International’s Board of Directors

Washington, DC, November 24, 2020—Pathfinder International welcomes two new members to its Board of Directors: Dr. Kavita Patel and Dr. Priya Agrawal. Drs. Patel and Agrawal bring a depth and breadth of diverse experience critical to our organization’s work of advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights around the world.

Dr. Kavita Patel is a policy expert with appointments at the Brookings Institution and the Bipartisan Policy Center. During the Obama administration, Dr. Patel was Director of Policy for the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs and Public Engagement where she played a critical role in policy development and the evaluation of policy initiatives connected to health reform. A primary care physician in Washington, DC and frequent MSNBC columnist, Dr. Patel’s recent commentary has focused on the impact of COVID-19 on communities of color.

Dr. Priya Agrawal is an obstetrician and gynecologist. A global women’s health expert, she is the Managing Director for Merck in Southern Africa. A Technical Advisor to the World Health Organization, Dr. Agrawal’s work has been recognized by the Harvard School of Public Health, the Trent Cancer Registry in the United Kingdom, and the National Patient Safety Agency. She was recently honored with the Forbes Impact Award in Advocacy.

“Through their public actions and exemplary commitment and leadership, both Drs. Patel and Agrawal personify Pathfinder’s central mission of empowering women, girls, youth, and adolescents in breaking through barriers and living healthier lives,” said Roslyn Watson, Pathfinder International Board Chair. “We proudly welcome them to the Pathfinder Board and look forward to their guidance and contributions.”

Pathfinder International is a sexual and reproductive health and rights organization. Since 1957, we have empowered women to make informed choices about whether and when to have children. We collaborate closely with our partners around the world to address the unmet need for modern contraception, offer life-saving maternal and newborn care, and reach the most vulnerable populations, including those who have been affected by conflict, climate change, and natural disasters. Taken together, our programs empower millions of women, men, and young people to choose their own paths forward.
