Improving Access to Sexual and Reproductive Health Services in Côte d’Ivoire

Funder

The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation

Overview
2022–2027

With funding from the Hewlett Foundation, Pathfinder is supporting the Government of Côte d’Ivoire in implementing their free family planning policy, conducting social and behavior change interventions, and involving young people in the promotion of sexual and reproductive health and rights.

In October 2021, the Government of Côte d’Ivoire began providing free family planning services in the Agboville heath district. By May 2023, with support from Pathfinder, this initiative was scaled to 10 health districts across 7 health regions. Free access to FP has led to increased use of modern contraception, particularly among adolescents and girls. Pathfinder is also leading social and behavior change interventions focused on building community capacity for identifying health problems and finding and applying local solutions.

Pathfinder has also formed District Technical Support Committees (Comité Technqiue d’Appui au District, or CTAD) to support health districts in mobilizing local resources, creating demand in the community, and monitoring health managers and providers to improve accountability. Pathfinder has engaged young people in promoting sexual and reproductive health and rights in the Agnéby-Tiassa region—to date, 12 Youth Champions for sexual and reproductive health and family planning have been selected and trained.
