Junt@s

Funder

Royal Norwegian Embassy in Maputo

Overview
2017–2019

Referring to the work of boys and girls, men and women “together” to transform negative gender norms and barriers to adolescents’ sexual and reproductive health, Junt@s improves adolescent sexual and reproductive health in the Maputo, Gaza, Inhambane, and Cabo Delgado provinces by increasing gender equality, comprehensive abortion care, and primary and secondary prevention of gender-based violence.

Project Activities

  • Promoted positive gender norms among very young adolescents in primary schools through “health school corners.”
  • Created an enabling environment for gender norms transformation, promotion & access to sexual and reproductive health for adolescents and youth through community debates and reflection (open debates and smaller groups of men and women) around the needs and rights of adolescents and youth as well as community radio.
  • Improved secondary gender-based violence prevention through multi-sectoral collaboration among health, police, education & justice institutions and community authorities.
  • Supported youth-friendly sexual and reproductive health services and provided technical support and training to implement the MOH’s abortion clinical guidelines for comprehensive abortion care.
